What Are Roleplaying games?

Role playing games are kind of like a cross between gaming and theater. You build a character created by the guidelines in the books. Although you use rules to create your character your character is completely personalized by you. You pick everything about them from their clothes to their personalities to even what color eyes they have. Your character is created on paper or a Character sheet, you have a set of dice which contains, in our group, at least 1d4, 5d6, 1d8, 2d10, 1D12, 1d20. The D stands for dice basically and the number stands for how many sides it has. I'm sure most everyone has seen a D6. It's a standard die that comes in most board games such as Monopoly and Yahtzee. IT has six sides therefore it is referred to as a D6. Your character sheets have numbers that determine his abilities and skills, but mostly everything relies on the roll of the dice. The Dungeon Master (DM) will tell you what's going on such as "You've walked into a small stone room, there is no windows, only a desk with a candle on it. As you look around the room you notice movement in the corner just barely in the candle light, it's an orc." You then tell the DM what you do such as "I Attack!"" "I Run Away!" "I cast MAGIC MISSILE!" The dice are then rolled to see if you succeed or if you fail and maybe die a horrible miserable death. Such as my first time playing.

I Heard D&D was for SATAN Worshipers.

Yes, we sacrifice goats on a daily basis. Last week we ran out of goats and had to Sacrifice Goat man because we figured, goat, goat man.....same thing, afterwards though we brought him back with a resurrection spell so it was OK. For those of you with no sense of humor that was a JOKE!. D&D is about as evil as being an actor in Hollywood....wait let me rephrase that, about as bad as being an actor in a church play. It's just having some fun with some friends getting a chance to be in a world of fantasy where anything can happen. I've even heard of it being used as a thing to keep kids out off the streets on a weekend...that's how it started with us.

Who should play D&D?

Anyone should and could play D&D. It's a lot simpler than it looks especially with the new D20 system. Don't get discouraged if you don't catch on your first time, it's not that simple. What I mean is, you will be able to understand enough to at least play your character probably after your 3rd session. As far as rules and character creation that just depends on the person. There's some people in our group who have played for a year and still don't understand and there's some in our group who caught on within their 3rd session.

I have noticed that people who tend to play D&D are those that probably weren't the most popular kids in school and probably didn't really care. D&D gives you that chance to become the hero and save the world, to have everyone knowing your name and loving you, or if you choose a darker path, everyone knows your name but they feel your wrath, unfortunately out campaigns tend to lean towards the Dark Side.
